In a time of dark concert halls, the brilliance of the Boston Pops comes to the radio, each Sunday night at 7pm.
The 2020 Spring Pops season was meant to celebrate the 25 years with Keith Lockhart as the conductor of the Pops. But the global pandemic forced a cancellation of the entire season. And while there is simply no substitute for being in Symphony Hall for the electrically charged live performances that should have taken place there, WCRB is devoting Sunday nights to the Pops for six consecutive weeks, from May 17 through June 21.
On June 14, Broadway stars Jason Danieley and Kate Baldwin anchor "Simply Sondheim!"
Later, on June 21, it's Film Night with John Williams!
Previous broadcasts have included:
- May 17 - Rhiannon Giddens curates and performs in "Rediscovering the Incredible Black Composer."
- May 24 - Keith Lockhart and the Pops let the audience pick the program in "By Popular Demand."
- May 31 - With selections from Anything Goes, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and more, the Pops welcome Broadway superstar Sutton Foster.
- June 7 - Keith Lockhart leads an All-Star Broadway cast in a Tanglewood performance of Leonard Bernstein's On the Town.
